Each year we make some mistakes, we regret doing things, we regret if we had saved ourselves from ruining a relationship, we wish that we’d not been that lazy and did our work with more hard-work. We have a plethora of guilts and regrets every year. At the end of the year, we try to recall our achievements and reflect on our mistakes. And the New Year’s Day is like eternal dawn to everyone. It instills a new energetic aura among everyone. Everyone wishes that the New Year would be a great one-one full of happiness and positive vibes. They set on goals to mend their previous blunders and mistakes and regrets and hopefully become able to fight trough them.

2020 COVID-19 OUTBREAK

Like the others, I too had been wishing that the very New Year,2020 would be a great one and could fight through it. But it turned out the be the nastiest of years among all.

The first week seemed pretty good to almost all of us. Everything was all okay until the WHO gets notified of the Corona Virus a.k.a Corona Virus spreading rapidly. Well nobody had thought that this virus could be this deadly. It has killed almost about 5 lakhs people around the globe with about one crore infected people. It’s already been about six months since this sin came forth on Earth. No full proof vaccine has been prepared yet.

Apart from people dying from getting infected by this venomous virus, there are several other reasons, too, the Corona Virus begotten. The outbreak of Covid-19 led to a world-wide lockdown, though some countries didn’t take the lockdown quite seriously. It was crucial to have a lockdown. Had the lock-downs not have happened, the world would have had to witness more deaths and casualties. Well, the lockdown had its flaws, too. Apart from economic degeneration and famine, suicide peaked off.

IMPACTS CAUSED BY THE OUTBREAK

According to an article published by DW.com, The combination of enforced isolation, increased anxiety, financial worries, and reduced access to therapy had led to an increase in suicide rates in Europe. According to Republica, in the very first month of the nation-wide lockdown, a total of 487 people committed suicide. The number was 20 percent more in comparison to the month of Falgun (mid-February to mid-March) when the number stood at 410.

“The increase in the number of suicide cases is somehow linked to the lockdown and the global COVID-19 pandemic. During the lockdown, people suffered from mental illness such as anxiety, depression, fear of getting an illness, among different problems. All these reasons have some connections behind the increase in the number of suicide cases,” Dr. Sagun Ballav Pant, who is an assistant professor of psychiatry at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) quoted this while he was interviewed by Republica’s news reporter.

This makes quite clear about how much of a serious issue suicide has become these days. The news of Sushant Singh Rajput, a well-known Bollywood Film Actor, taking his own life shook off our minds, not just in India, but in Nepal as well. He committed suicide on June 14, 2020.Though the media says the lockdown and the pandemic had nothing to do with his suicide, I truly believe that it had some aggravating effects on him.

Just after two days of his death, a teenager committed suicide. Siya Kakkar,16, who had a fan-base of 2.3Million on TikTok took her own life on June 16, 2020. She too must have had mental anxiety and depression due to the pandemic. I have lost one of my closest friends to suicide in this very pandemic. This is when I decided to write about it.

There are numerous of suicide cases around the globe that happened during this phase of this hideous COVID-19 outbreak. We can’t enlist all of them.

What we can do is aware people about it. There are thousands of reasons why people have been doing suicide these last few months. Well, we couldn’t possibly go through all of them. I digged in and found some articles about the heart-breaking suicide cases these past few months. And I found out some astonishing causes. Financial Problems, Familial Problems, and history with being bullied and depressed were the major causes.
